Rosacea can be caused by genetics and is triggered by environmental factors such as emotional stress, spicy food, hot drinks, alcohol consumption, temperature changes, sport, sun exposure or irritant cosmetics.

Several biological dysfunctions are implicated in rosacea: aabnormalities in the skin's natural defense system, an excessive nervous response and a damaged and weakened barrier. This causes visible symptoms such as temporary flushing or persistent redness and small visible blood vessels.
