Sun protection products protect the skin against UV rays. There are two types, with overlapping effects on the skin:
- UVB rays, which affect the superficial layers of the skin, causing sunburn and risk of developing skin cancer.
- UVA rays, which penetrate deep into the skin, causing photoageing and risk of developing skin cancer. These cause wrinkles, sagging skin and the appearance of pigmentation spots.
The sun contains other types of radiation that are also harmful to the skin: visible light and infrared radiation. Like UVA, visible light and IR radiation pass through clouds and windows, silently inflicting damage on the skin day after day, leading to photoageing.
Although the sun is beneficial for the body: production of vitamin D, improved mood, repeated or prolonged unprotected exposure is hazardous to skin health, which is why you can take action to protect your skin. It's also important to know that solar radiations are present in all seasons, not just in summer.
Protecting it is the key to healthy skin.
